The “Raupenhelm” (caterpillar helmet) on this soldier has a long history dating back to ancient times, but was last worn by Bavarian light cavalry (Jäger) units between 1843 and 1886.
Reproductions of this stein, some with markings similar to the originals, were made by Schierholz from about 1986 to 1995.
