In this scene from the second act of Richard Wagner’s opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (The Master Singers of Nuremberg), Hans Sachs, shoemaker, poet and master singer, meets with Eva Pogner, a goldsmith’s daughter, to discuss the upcoming song contest, the winner of which is to become her husband.
